All Breeds All Britain 2006

The 6 calves in the Championship came from Cheshire, Cornwall, Dorset, Norfolk and Sussex(2).

The Champion was Easby Lady Fair 6 from A& D Waters with the Reserve Instead Clarissa 2 from A & N Kennard and the Hon. Mention Blacknor Margaret 162 from Sansom & Crouch.

On our debut at the AB's we were fortunate to have Roland Ley as our Judge, his family farm in devon and their Holstein herd was one of the finalists in the Gold Cup competition this year.

Roland gave a really professional display and his reason's for his placings were I thought very accurate and informative.

I hope that he might provide us with a report as I know that he both enjoyed the job and was impressed with the Guernsey calves.

There were 23 calves forward from 11 exhibitors whilst 36 from 15 exhibitors had been catalogued.

We had chozen to just have 3 classes in our first year and with hindsight should have split the calves again in 4mth age groups rather than 6mth as there was quite a difference in size particularly in the second class.

Junior Line up

The Junior Class had 7 forward and it was Jessica Hall with Thornton Honey 2 ,by Treloweth Harebells Hunter 2nd that was placed first, with Jeremy Hichens with the families Carne Violet, a Yogibear that had also stood second at Hallworthy next and the Dividend calf from A&N Kennard, Instead Beauty 32 was third. A very level class full of dairiness and great promise for the future.

Intermediate Line up

The Intermediate Class with 10 forward was the Class of the day and Roland took his time to make his decisions in this Class before placing Easby Lady Fair 6 in first position, she is an Easby Rowan heifer and was expertly shown by Kate Bowsher for Andrew Waters, whilst the second placed heifer and by far the largest was Blacknor Margaret 162 from Sansom and Crouch and she was a daughter of White Ladies Daphnes Mr Luck, in third place was another Yogibear from the Water's shown by Stephen and she was Easby Julia 7.

Senior Line up

The senior class with 6 forward found the youngest winning and this was Instead Clarissa 2 by Dividend out of Chiddingstone Clarissa 32( the last calf registered in that herd before its dispersal) she has tremendous potential and will impress on her reappearance in the ring, in second place was the Easby Rowan daughter Easby Polyanthus 7 who had partnered Kate Bowsher to the handling Championship on the previous day, with the Kingwell Mozart daughter Greensfield Mozarts Tetley who had up until Sunday been undefeated in 2006 winning at Devon, Totnes and the Hallworthy Calf show where she had been Reserve Supreme Champion for Emma Greenslade.

Jessica with Thornton Honey 2

First and second prize winners went forward to the Championship in the main ring with Jessica leading the way.

Jeremy with Carne Violet

Kate with Easby Lady Fair 6

Kate and E Lady Fair 6 led the Intermediate pair.

Emma with Blacknor Margaret 162

Robert and Instead Clarissa 2

Robert Evans led I Clarissa 2 and was apparently the only South Walian to return home from the Show with a Red ticket.

Stephen and Easby Polyanthus 7

Keith Collins of Highgrove Foods main Sponsor

Keith Collins of Highgrove Foods had sponsored both Guernsey and Jersey breeds and presented the Rosettes to the Intermediate winners.

Championship

The Championship was awarded by Roland to Easby Lady Fair 6 with Instead Clarissa 2  as Reserve and Blacknor Margaret 162 as Hon Mention.

The Champions

A very successful first show for the Guernseys but one that we can and must improve on,we need to start planning now, we need more calves, better calves and more kids, but we will do well to find better ones.
