12th Guernsey World Conference
The WGCF Conference ends today with delegates returning home after the Gala Dinner last night where A$2800 was raised for Guernsey memorabilia, the star Lot being a patchwork quilt which had taken 15 months to make and depicted typical Australian scenes embellished with Golden Cows.
All of the main countries were represented with Reuben Kotze the sole South African rep up and down like a yoyo, but his joint session with Ross Hopper about milk selling was probably the best session of the conference.
I believe the Global Breeding Plan is closer to reality with enthusism from Australia,UK and the USA to exchange semen whilst New Zealand and South Africa have already taken part.
The cows seen in Australia have been impressive, particularly when you see the effect of the drought on the countryside.
It did rain for 36 hours at the end of the tour so perhaps things are improving but it will need a lot of rain this autumn/winter to fill the reservoirs.
As ever the fellowship of the Guernsey folk was outstanding and it was a pleasure to get to know the US delegates who included the last 5 Master Breeder recipients and they all certainly deserved that accolade and have been a mine of information.
As reported earlier some positive ideas have been adopted and will hopefully prove fruitful at a time of unprecedented demand for the Guernsey.
