Chris Watson R.I.P.

Very sad to have to report to our members that Chris Watson passed away last evening. He had fought courageously against illness for some months and  had been in hospital last week but he died peacefully at home. Lt Col Chris Watson has been an integral part of The English Guernsey Cattle Society for many years.

Royal Cornwall Show June 7th-9th 2018.

There were 10 animals forward from 5 Exhibitors at the this year’s Royal Cornwall Show. Judging was Mr Colin Evans from Carmarthen S. Wales and he found his Champion in Trewey Bruce Plum Crazy 23 from David Mann. In Reserve was Lucky Cow Princess Annabelle from Pollard and Coryn.

Royal Bath & West Show May 30th-June 2nd 2018. Judges Comments now available.

There were 16 cattle from 8 exhibitors forward at this years Royal Bath & West Show. Unfortunately, only three of these were in milk and the Show Society had decided to amalgamate these into one class and they also did the same to the Heifer in Calf and Cow in Calf.

Devon County Show May 18th 2018. Judges Comments now available.

There was a really good entry of Guernseys at this year’s Devon County Show with 6 exhibitors having 19 cattle forward. Judging was Duncan Vincent and he found his Champion in Greensfield Tiller Star Pippin from the Greenslade Family. They also took Reserve with Greensfield Irish Baileys and Hon Mention with Greensfield Lady Jay.

North Somerset Show, May 7th 2018.

Due to unforeseen circumstances for 2 exhibitors, there were only two Guernseys present at this first show of 2018. Judging, was Andrew Thomas and he made the Heifer in calf, Avalon Fernando Linda his Champion with the maiden Heifer Hurdlebrook MLK Meadowsweet in Reserve.

Judges Workshop 4 April 2018

The EGCS Judges Workshop 2018 will be held on Wednesday 4th April 2018 at Model Farm, Kimcote, Lutterworth, LE17 5RT by kind permission of Alan and Rebecca Thomas and family. The day which is intended to encourage new judges to join the existing Panel of Judges and to enable existing Judges to keep up to date with the requirements of the modern Guernsey cow, will also include a herd visit of the 130 acre Council holding with its 250 head of cattle, mainly Holstein but incorporating, at present, between 30 -40 head of Kimcote Guernseys.
