Polled heifer wins at Honiton Show 2014

Greensfield Crunch Glade followed up her win at the Devon show with a first prize at Honiton in a strong In calf heifer class and this daughter of Jens Gold Aaron Crunch is naturally polled. She is in calf to Springhill Jackpot and her calf will have a Parent Average GMI of +190.

Interest in Guernseys from Nepal

I met yesterday (Sunday 27th July) with two gentlemen from Nepal at Wood Farm , Wroughton Wilts by kind invitation of the Gosling family who allowed us to inspect the milking herd and explained the organic farming system. Mr Gurung from Nepal , had been asked to investigate the import of Guernsey semen to be used in a small cross-breeding project on an organic vegetable project where animal manure is essential to the growth of healthy crops.

Richard Norman has married Belinda Hann on Saturday July 5th. Richard farms at Marston Magna, Near Yeovil and is well known for his Je’Taime Guernseys along with the Cadbury Guernseys he owns with Cathryn Mills and latterly the newly formed Avalon prefix with the Sales Family.

National Livestock Show 2014

The facilities at the NEC are first class, the organisers making the effort to help exhibitors (no other show unloads the kit and moves it to the stalls) and in general the other dairy breeds are taking advantage of 10,000 dairy farmer visitors.

Guernsey heifer calves born in Mainland Europe

4 heifer calves have been born in the Netherlands from some of the 25 heifers exported last November, as a result of a visit to Beechgroves at the weekend more Guernseys are wanted in Romania. Two groups (around 40 heifers) are available to start a herd in Italy, and a new herd has been established on the Isle of Lewis.

Royal Cornwall Show 2014.

This years Royal Cornwall Show was held on June 5th to 7th at Wadebridge. Four exhibitors had 10 cattle forward for Judge Richard Emm to place. Notable absentees were the Warren Family from Penzance, who had once again fell foul of  TB movement restrictions.

The Primrose's at Tredinney and Laity Farm

The latest star to emerge from the Primrose family is Tredinney Yogis Primrose 29 VG 87, and she is 4th gen VG or better and traces to Laity Farm Primrose 88       The Laity Farm Primroses were bought by Dennis ,Rosemaryand James Warren in 2001 when FMD had stopped most movement of cattle and Chris Trewern who owned the Laity Farm herd found himself with a contract to sell his farm with vacant possesion, but was unable to sell his cows.
